A Special Branch of The Swim Squad
We at Lucky Fin Swim School believe that everyone is special and individual in their range of abilities and skills. Lucky Fin instructors are positive, encouraging and patient as we are all unique and learn at different speeds. Instructors work on building confidence and self-esteem while teaching their special needs students swimming and water safety skills. Lessons are tailored to the special needs and abilities of each student and may not always look like traditional swim lessons. Our goal is to help all of our students become safe and better swimmers to the extent of their capabilities in a fun and nurturing environment. Lucky Fin swim instructors are certified in WSI, CPR, First Aid, AED and Adapted Aquatics. ASL is used as a visual reinforcer and for the hearing impaired.
Aquatic exercise is very therapeutic and has been proven to benefit the differently-abled in many ways, including: - Increased coordination, sensory and spacial awareness - Strengthening and toning of muscles due to the three-dimensional resistance water provides - Improved flexibility and range of motion - Water buoyancy gives freedom from gravity removing stress from muscles, joints and pressure points - Reduction of pain and swelling for chronic conditions such as arthritis or those that are injury-related - Relaxing and calming - Provides an equalizer with social peers Because effective learning and safety requires ongoing reinforcement and repetition, we encourage once weekly swim lessons year round. Limited scholarships are available through our sponsor the Down Syndrome Foundation of Florida.
